Thae Collective - To Disappear When Time Has Come (tape, De Koude Oorlog sz 009, 1987)
I somehow missed out posting this before, when I did a whole bunch of Dutch tapes, another from Den Helder's Koude Oorlog label, with various people involved such as Dikyl Brobojo, From Me To You, Rich. Maipauw and St. Cos. Metal percussion and electronics.

Small Cruel Party ? (tape, 19??)
Also a questionmark is this one. A handpainted cassette box which has Small Cruel Party written on the side, but is it Small Cruel Party? I am not sure. Just one 15 minute piece though. Maybe someone knows.

Nurse With Wound - Devices (tape, 1986)
The final copy of a copy is this tape, of which Discogs says: "Bootleg Bought from XxX reckords.
Material seems to be a mix ov NWW Early material and audio recordings that are certainly not Nurse With Wound. Most Likely a home made bootleg by John ZeWizz. Steven Stapleton was more than annoyed about this Tape and Devices 2 when brought up in conversation during 1988." I doubted whether I should post this, but I did. Listen and delete.

Snatch Tapes 1 (tape, Snatch Tapes, 1980?)
Also not copied from an original, but from a copy of a copy (but still sounding good, and not for sale and also I have no recollection of who gave these to me), this first of three compilations (I only have this one) with Karls Empty Body, N4s, Storm Bugs, Steven Reynolds, Claire Thomas & Susan Vezey and A. Swimming Behavior Of The Human Infant - Oroko Do (tape, 198?)
The problem if you don't have originals, you never know for sure if you have the whole thing (well, perhaps with tapes you never know anyway). Discogs lists this a 90 minute tape, so this might either be wrong, or my copied version is shorter, thirty minutes. Anyway, a pretty obscure release by Achim Wollscheid, who was then calling himself SBOTHI, or Swimming Behavoir OF The Human Infant. Pretty noisy stuff

someone left this comment, which i accidentely refused, sorry about that:
Jeffrey Filla has left a new comment on your post
"Oroko Do" is the title of one of the SBOTHI videos that somebody posted onto YouTube only a few weeks ago along with some other old SELEKTION OPTIK videos. If you dig Achim Wollscheid's xerox art (like I always have), then check out the SBOTHI video called "Hiatus Pt. 2"
thanks for that... this is the film

Organum - Pulp/Icon (tape, 1983)
Discogs: David Jackman is the man behind the sounds. He has been working in the field of musical experimentation and improvisation for over 25 years. His early work, documented in scores as well as performances with Scratch Orchestra, offers only a glimpse of the drone-based dynamics that would appear later. While his last 15 years have been dedicated to the music of Organum, Jackman's future plans include more work on independent solo projects.
On the excellent website devoted to Organum we find this about this cassette release
Entry 4:14 Pulp | Icon
Artist Organum
Label :: Cat# no label :: no catalogue number
Country :: Year UK :: 1983 (mid)
Format Cassette album :: black & white photocopies inlay
Edition 9 copies only [each one is a unique performance]
Tracks Side A :: Pulp
Side B :: Icon
This was the first ever appearance of the name ‘Organum’. Black & white cover with an ‘X’ motif over scratched monoprint background. The word ‘Organum’ appears on the cassette spine. Track titles appear on the inside of the cover. The cassette is a standard Sony CHF C30 cassette tape with a small yellow, round label with the number n/100 on the bottom left of side A, where n is a number between 1 and 9. Originally 100 were intended, but the project only got as far as number 9. Just one copy was sold. Copy numbers 1 and 9 were used as the basis of Kanroku (see entry 1:11). The sounds were derived from 6 linked square-wave oscillators custommade by David Jackman. All sounds by David Jackman. The tapes were recorded on a stereo cassette deck and monitored using headphones.

Andrew Chalk - Crescent (tape, ICR 21, 1986)
Back in the 80s I had a friend who used to make copies of tape releases for me, and its perhaps not entirely the right thing I should do on this blog, I decided to transfer a few of the more interesting ones, which are, as far as I can judge, pretty complete musicwise and perhaps cover wise. The first one is this one by Andrew Crescent, his first solo release following his work as Ferial Confine. He has also worked with David Jackman, Christoph Heeman, Giancarlo Toniutti, Darren Tate and others. Looking at discogs it seems that this early cassette version is different than the later CD version released by Robot Records.

Side A is raw material to be transformed by other artists and send back to R & G. Results are the basic material for Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock - Stuhlgangblockade N! (SH 09). B2 was recorded 1985 in Zürich. Limited to 50 copies.

1348 - La Revolution D'Abord Et Toujours (tape, Watergate Tapes?, 198?)
More music by 1348, which might be the only other release I have by him. I am not sure if this is on Watergate Tapes. 1348 was the solo project of Jeff Surak, who was a member of New Carrolton in the 80s and in the nineties started as V. and then Violet. As such he still produces music and plays live. He also organises the excellent (I think) Sonic Circuits festival in Washington DC.

Raped By Four Valentines Day (tape, Watergate Tapes 005, 1985)
Polish label Impulsy Stetoskopy asked me to remove yesterday's 'Artiment' by Hands To, since they released a double CDR of that. Today a great compilation with four bands, each with around twenty-three minutes of music: Controlled Bleeding, 1348, F/i and 37 Pink. Released by 1348's label Watergate Tapes.

The Firing Squad - Pig And Face (tape, Gezonde Boerse Copulaties GBC 11, 198?)
Another one from the world of my favorite Belgium writer (at least in the 80s) Erik Vloeberghs. He is best known for his work with Angst, but also with Kwajongens In Bloei and The Parts (with Club Moral). I have no idea who else was a member of this band The Firing Squad. Lots of lo-fi metallic rhythm and biting vocals. Nice.

Tandstickfabriek - Electricity Works (tape, EW 001, 1998)
Rotterdam's punk band Tandstickorshocks inspired this rather short lived duo in the late 90s to record some music, which is more experimental. One of the members was Erik Drost, who was later on a guitar player in a band called Girlfriends and then moved to The Legendary Pink Dots, which he is currently (again) a member of. He also produced various CDs by Beequeen. This tape was released in an edition of 26 copies, each with a different set of tracks, handwritten, so I left the whole piece unindexed. Apparently recorded in the waiting room of a train station.

Pascal - I Let You Know When My House Was On Fire (tape, 1995)
Born in 1968 in Friesland, a part of the Netherlands, working with It Dockumer Lokaeltsje, moved to America in the early nineties, and created a demo in the Der Plan/Ata tak studio with Pyrolator. Later on he released two albums "A Hammer A Day Keeps The Headache Away" (2003) and "Arctic Poppy" (2005). No doubt the tape here, from Dr. Freakowitz' collection (and most likely the last tape I post from him, unless he finds something behind a cupboard, is that 1995 demo recorded with Der Plan. Quite weird sample-mania.

Det Wiehl - The Act Of Touch (tape, 19??)
This is not an official release, but some private thing which I found in Dr Freakowitz collection. I posted their official tapes before. Later in their career, Det Wiehl (Andre Bach & Marc Tegefoss, once of Tox Modell) started working on music for ballet and theatre, and no doubt this is one. Much more experimental and improvised than their earlier work. Quite difficult to see them as a guitar duo.

Actually I should not be posting this: Dr. Freakowitz had a copy but not the original, but we're sure all the tracks are here and the music is nice enough, but no cover (anyone who has it?). So why not? Plus someone left a nice comment on the Leimer tape yesterday and this music is along similar. Also the last tape we have from Palace Of Lights. On their website I read Barreca will release a new CD this year.

K. Leimer - Music For Land And Water (tape, Palace Of Lights, 1983)
Another fine early release by K. Leimer. "This music was produced specifically for performance and installation. Art and science is an extract from a one week long installation. The system comprised four non-synchronous closed loop stereo tape players, the type used in commercial music systems. These played loops of different durations with like and dissimilar information of each of eight tracks". Three long pieces.

K. Leimer - Installation View (tape, Palace Of Light, 1983)
"This tape is comprised primarily of unfinished material that served as a point of departure for other pieces. The interest lies in the relative incompleteness of each exercise. In this sense, the tape is more a document than a statement and shows the influences I worked with during these past six years". K. Leimer is perhaps america's answer to Brian Eno? Quite active with ambient and electronic music in the 80s, then quieter for a longer, but in recent years he has released a couple of new things.
