De Fabriek - Mediterraneo (tape, Old Europa Cafe, 19??)

The very last tape of De Fabriek that I have. The bad news is that I am getting, slowly towards the end of my collection to post, but there is good news on the horizon. I am going to get more tapes by Dr. Freakowitz and also from EU Records I will borrow a whole bunch of tapes, plus a small donation from someone who moved house. So the life of this blog is extended for some more time.

Technique - Janus (tape, Pulse E.M.K., 1983)

Technique is, according to the cover John K. Thornley and his music is largely quiet and easy synthesizer music with a bit of rhythm (arppegio here and there). Nice.

Rotterdans - Hersenletsel (tape, Drumsound 001, 198?)

An obscure, as in no information, tape by a band from Rotterdam (I think). Its mixed by Exart Studio. Improvised music with a high level of percussion and voices. Later on they had a tape on Exart, the first release on that label.

Ankarax & Radi-tech (two tapes, 1982)

These two obscure releases from 1982 are not mentioned in any of the Nederlandse Cassette Catalogus, and aren't exactly very informative. Both of them are recorded by Kees de Groot, then a musician and video artist, these days of Planet Art and the Gogbot festival. Two short, ten minute tapes, of rhythm and noise. No track titles as such, and maybe I got the band names also mixed. So it goes.

Kees van Kalmthout - 'N Aangetekend Stuk (tape, Blessure Records, 1983)

The final tape (so far) on Blessure Records is by poet Kees van Kalmthout, who lived from 1948 to 1991, when he died of a cardiac arrest. He started writing poetry when he was 19, and also painted. In the early 80s he was the manager of MAM, the band by Tom America (their first LP, a true classic in my ears, was posted earlier on this blog), with which band Van Kalmthout also recorded this cassette. So much more music on this poetry tape, and some are in english. I hope I managed to scan the entire cover alright.

Ruud Kluivers - Artefact 2 (tape, 1981)

Ruud Kluivers is perhaps best known for his label Stichting Stopcontact, who released the five Contactdisc albums, but he also produced his own music. Under his own name, but also with others and this highly obscure tape, which also involvement of Rob van Wijngaarden, also known as Mental (and of whom I don't have many tapes, but perhaps Dr. Freakowitz does. This is all quite an experimental synthesizer tape, no waves.

Kloot Per W - Sex Wars (tape, Parsley, 1980)

Kloot Per W is Claude Perwez, a musician from Belgium (flemish part). He played with such bands as The Misters, The Employees, Polyphonic Size, The Sam Cooke Singers, De Kreuners, De Lama's, Mother Fist and these days with The Belpop Bastards. His website seems a bit out date. Great electronic music with much energy and excellent production

Blameless Act (7", Sordide Sentimental ii 45002, 1982)

Some days ago I posted the final issue of Unsound, the cassette only. By sheer luck Shock Corridor posted the magazine itself. So for today I am posting here a 7" by Blameless Act and on Notes From Underground the actual magazine 'Isolation Intellectuele' that goes with. I have no idea who Blameless Act were...

Het Zweet - Massive Trance (tape, 198?)

As promised earlier, here is the only other tape I have by Het Zweet, 'Massive Trance'. Again a bit presented like a demo, but with the music by Het Zweet that we know from his album for Recloose Organisation. Lengthy tribal percussion music. In the 'Nederlandse Cassette Catalogus', this is said be released a label called Zweepslag, and thirty minutes, but nothing about Zweepslag here and its a sixty minute tape.

Another fine release from the Exart label. I only got the tape from Dr. Freakowitz, not the booklet as shown on discogs. One track has the help of Herman te Loo, from Gorgonzola Legs. If you liked the recent Y Create tapes, then this one is not to be missed either.

Het Zweet - Fase (tape, Staaltape, 198?)

When I posted Forced Run two weeks ago, somebody was quite disapointed that it was so 'wavy' and almost exactely the same as the Staalplaat tape. He/she also asked about a c60 on Staalplaat. I don't think I have that one, but I do have 'Fase', another short release, on Staalplaat. Hopefully more to his liking. 'Massive Trance' soon.

The Final Unsound (tape, 1988)

Wouldn't it be great to post music here and the magazine on 'Notes From Underground'? That would be nice with this final issue of Unsound, but alas I have a small scanner only and limited abilities in graphic software, so only the music. I may have seen this elsewhere, but I forgot. This is a fresh rip from my own copy. This compilation features Controlled Bleeding, Psyclones, Smersh, Hunting Lodge, Master/Slave Relationship, Die Tödliche Doris, Audio Leter with Fake Feelings Institute, Torn Memory, Monochrome Bleu, Haters, S.B.O.T.H.I., Theme Park, Robert Bolman, Problemist, Blackhouse, Das Synthetische Mischgewebe, Nomuzic, Glorious Din, Eberly Brothers, P16.D4, Kristine Ambrosia, Poison Gas Research, Mother Country, Negativland

Tak Tak Tak 2 (tape, Tak Tak Tak 2, 1987)

From a friend I borrowed some tapes, and that included four issues of Tak Tak Tak. He only gave me the cassettes, not the magazines. From the current website: "In 1986 Tak Tak Tak the independent publishing house/label first published a journal devoted to experimental writing, sound and image. Backissues, along with various other publications and sound releases can be purchased via our Catalogue". Tak Tak Tak 1 I don't have, but here is the out of print number 2, which has music and found sound by Blurt, Martien Groenevelt, The Colonels, Ted Milton. The magazine I seem to recall also had found bits, writing and photography. not scanned. This post doesn't even have a proper track list - sorry. Tak Tak tak 3-6 are still available as cassettes or CDs (so I won't post them, which unfortunately I found out after ripping them). All of these are highly recommended: music, spoken word and found sound, great travelogues.

The Young Lions (tape, Amphibious Records A003, 1982)

From the time when the Young Lions were still a five piece band, including Tim Benjamin, Ronald Heiloo, Peter Mertens, Harold Schellinx and Rob Scholte (the later famous painter who was attacked with a car bomb). Tracks on this cassette have been recorded at various occasions during 1979 and 1980. Some of this with a cassette recorder with built-in microphone during rehearsals, some using sound-on-sound. The latter were used as demo's.

Herman Brand - Code (tape, Blessure Records, 1982)

I tried to find some information about Herman Brand, a performing pop music poet (even when there is no music on this release as such), but I couldn't. So sorry. It is a short tape, 23 minutes only, with the same program on the b-side. I thought this was quite good, even when I am that much of a lover of this kind of stuff. Spoken in Dutch of course

Diana Ozon & Ludwig Wisch - Laag Bij De Gronds (tape, Blessure Records, 1982)

Diana Ozon is a Dutch poet who started out in the early punk scene in Amsterdam. She did the Coekrant along with Hugo Kaagman and had a club, bookstore and gallery in her squat. She still writes poetry until this very day and is apparently quite famous.

This tape has her poetry (also released as a book) and she used to perform with bands (although her website doesn't say which bands that would be). She was sacked for a real singer and then she got help from Ludwig Wisch on new music, which was much quieter and nicer. Perhaps at times even a bit reggae/dub-like.

Manufactured in Holland it says on the cover, but the recordings were made in tel Aviv, in september-november 1981. I never heard of them until I got it from Dr. Freakowitz. Seven Code is Fortis (vocals, guitar, synth) and Yoyo on synth, bass, vocal) with one Schultz as guest on vocal and saxophone. Quite nice minimal synth music.

Chi (tape, 1986)

This might not have been an official release, but more a demo of some kind. Chi is best described as the Dutch O Yuki Conjugate: ambient, atmospheric and fourth world like. Members are Willem Cramer, Koos Derwort (of whom I posted a tape before), Hanyo van Oosterom and Michel Banabila. The latter the most famous musician of the band, who still records similar music to this day. Chi later released a CD on Container Music, a rather short lived side label of Staalplaat.

Em - To, To New York (tape, Nucleine, 1984)

Richard Zijlstra might be best known as the producer of the legendary VPRO Radionome programm, and perhaps also as Gentic Factor. As such he had a track on the Radionome LP. I am not sure what he does these days, nor when he would choose for then name Em to record music. Maybe this is driven by rhythm? Nice synth based alternative popmusic though.

Forced Run (tape, Het Zweet, ?)

Before Het Zweet gained some reputation through their liason with the Recloose Organisation, they, or rather he (Marien van Oers) released some tapes, some through Staalplaat. Before Het Zweet there was Forced Run. This tape here is rather short, and released on the label Het Zweet (rather confusing perhaps), and consists of two unnamed persons playing bass synthesizer percussion and vocals along with prepared rhythm tapes. Perhaps more like a demo.

Frans Friederich & Lukas Simonis - Das Leben Ist Schön (tape, 1995)

donated by Pascal 'titi' Tabarnac

This was actually never released officially. They only made a bunch of cassettes for friends & neighbours. We speak the year 1995-ish. Frans & Lukas visited the SubAcqua studio's on a regular basis and recorded there with the help of Camille Dings, the main man. It was a strange mixture of gabber, weird improv, covers of BeachBoys & other songs, and the occasional song they wrote themselves. It was appr. the same period that Frans & Robert Kroos recorded their masterpiece 'Estos Noson Pagagos (still available on the Mutant Sounds blog). Two songs were made with the Swiss band Les Halmas & AA Kismet-singer Eveline Ketterings; Go Away & Another Song. Also Camille does some stuff here and there. Les Halmas were; Trixa Arnold, Ilya Komarov and Simon Dellsperger. The sleeve is a reconstruction; only the mastertape was saved. (if anybody still has the original sleeve, we'd be much obliged).
