City Of Worms - Crumnants (tape, Sound Of Pig Music 129, 1987)
More by Jeph Jerman, George Erickson, and Steve Beckner, also known as City Of Worms. There is a great new blog which focusses on the many activities by the Greek label Harsh Dept/Absurd or whatever they are called, and where you can get another City Of Worms release, Quester. Also highly recommended.

Northam - Ground (tape, Sounds For Consciousness Rape SFCR 24, 1993)
From discogs: "Michael Northam's (a.k.a. mnortham) artistic trajectory has been a gradual process extending from early actionistic performances to current sound actions, field recordings and compositions. Northam explores the avenue of direct electroacoustic improvisation, solo and with a variety of collaborators. His many 'sound actions' have taken place at venues throughout Europe and North America. Since his first CD was released in 1993, he has consistently produced works that give an opportunity for the listeners to challenge and examine themselves-exploring ideas of place on "Stomach of the Sky", qualities of weather on "Coyot", and perceptions of microscopic worlds on "From Within the Solar Cave". Similar such ideas have formed the basis of his installations such as "Entering Molecular Streams' (Observatori festival, Valencia, Spain 2000) and "Circulating Phases" (Klangturm, St. Pölten, Austria 2001)."
From the insert, "Done with more or less basic equipment out of economic necessity; completed from recordings made and remixed while traveling between 1991 and presently, 5-1992."

Ton Lebbink - Luchtkastelen (LP, Blessure Records, 1981)
Ton Lebbink was perhaps best known as drummer of Mecano, and bouncer of Paradiso, but he also produced two LPs of poetry reading, in Dutch. Don't let this put you, non - Dutch speakers, off, as the music is quite nice too. He doesn't play drums, but uses the Linn drumcomputer and some guitars. Its a funny record, sometimes sad. Very nice one indeed. 'Voetbalknieen' is a classic.

Great Evening (tape, Futu X Tapes 05, 1986)
Another compilation, this one from Belgium, from a label I never heard of otherwise than this one. It has lots of Dutch and Belgiums bands like Gropiusstadt, MTVS, Het Zweet, Kapotte Muziek, Hags, Kruisvocht, Narzisse, Zombies Under Stress, Johan Koopman Ban and from other countries Asod Dvi, Avant-Dernieres Pensees and Nails Ov Christ. Realised by Hans Slock, the man behind Narzisse.

Take Five (tape, Ecto tapes ecto 22, 19??)
This is one of those typical cassette projects from the 80s. 'Here is a tape with sound from me, now add some of your music on top, and we'll release it'. In this case the raw sound material came from Eel O & Mortuary Attendant, and it was treated by Cepahlic Index, Big City Orchestra, La Sonorite jaune, Travis B, Mike Shannon, Mental Anguish, PBK, Keona Umberto, Minoy, Theatre Of Ice, TL & A, Not Half, Jeff Central/ITN, War World, Kapotte Muziek, Skeletal Remains and Bellas Artes. There is also second volume, from 1996, which I don't have.

Behind Kopfschmerztablette was one Micheal Wurzer and behind The H.E.S.S. Group we find Bart Hanselaar of whom we posted music and releases before. A pretty noise release. I am looking for some releases on this label, which aren't mentioned on discogs, like '3 Into 1', a small series of compilations. Anyone can help, please?

Toy Bizarre/Action Concret - Isolation Studies (tape, First Circle, 1996)
One of the more 'recent' tapes in my collection is this one by Toy Bizarre, also known as Cedric Peyronnet, a composer from France. I got this since I liked some of his works on CD and CDRs.
"In june 1985, I decided to work under the name of Toy Bizarre, while my best friend and I were recording crickets singing in a pit along a small countryside road, in the sunset. His father's old tape recorder was in fact so bad that we were just able to hear a small frequency part of the hypnotic insects rhythm between the clouds of hiss.
Back at home, I decided to go on recording, put on tape every little sound of my environment, of the sonic world I was surrounded by. I still do it. My actual work is focused on "places", its characteristics and its sound components. So the goal of all my sound compositions is to explore a place: it could be a chain of mountains, a square meter of grass, a beach, a marshalling yard, a hydroelectric powerstation... Each time the process is the same: recording all the typical sounds of the place (well, for me), then to compose sound pieces only with these sounds, through a sound sculpture process. So we can say that each one of these pieces is the sonic reflection of the place." -- C.Peyronnet
On this old release Peyornnet uses sound material by Action Concret, whoever they might be. It already shows his fine methods in creating music with lots of silence and musique concrete.

Experiences Sonoras (tape, Anti-Demos Cracia, 1991)
Also from Portugal (I know it said Spain before, but people keep sending comments, always a more fun activity that reading them, saying its a Portugese label, so I changed this) is this compilation with lots of names I never heard of, like Antes Dementes, Vulture's Eye, Ovo, Ignore Alien Orders, Die Neue Sonne, Sebastian Gandera, Erros Alternados. So the only familiar names were Kapotte Muziek and Møhr. The cover has a mistake so on the back a small paper was glued with some additional track info. I hope I made the right order of tracks then.

Escupemeteralla - Vida Y Color (tape, Clonaciones Petunio, 1991)
I know there are various spanish people checking this blog often and here is something for you, well catalan actually. I have no idea who or what about Escupmetralla, although the cover mentions: Abu (decotrestrofomonorrimador, voz), two guys name Muhammad playing the same thing, Petunio on 'Alguna guiterra' on one track and Arturo on 'nada and todo'. I borrowed this tape from Frans de Waard, who got a graphic score performed here 'The 4 Elements'. He says that he got this out of the blue back in those days. He released a compilation of his own with various other interpretations of this score.

Testament Of Therapie (tape, B.Z.N. Productions, 1987)
I borrowed this from someone who played at the very night this was recorded. He wrote about it: "This was a terrible night. A cold garage like space, no audience showing up. Part of a cassette label event, where people could listen, trade and buy. We were supposed to get 40 guilders for the car hire (roughly 20 euro now - 433rpm) but since not many people showed up, the guy from the Therapie label gave us some cassettes, which we then sold to V2, who trashed them years later when they moved. This tape release was quite possible a bootleg, since the Therapie label had stopped by then, and gave this, without us knowning to some label called B.Z.N. Productions. I must admit I don't know where I got my copy". All concerts are present here from that night: Experiment Incest, Lakoste, Death Pact International, A Violated Body and Vidna Obmana. All live in Antwerpen.

Als Je Haar Maar Goed Zit 2 (LP, Vogelspin Records bite 009, 1983)
I must admit, it took a while to get this done, as I promised this to someone perhaps in 2007 already, but then finally McDoomey LTD showed up with the real thing and not some ripped MP3s and no cover. This is the turning point, I think, in Dutch punk, when positions shift towards a more hardcore sound and it includes the following bands: Pandemonium, Haemorrhoids, Outlawz, BGK, Last Few, Null A, Zmiv, Amsterdamned. Personally not the sort of punk I am particularly keen on, but for sure a record that belongs here.

What's In A Name - 70 Great Ideas From Europe (Ding Dong Records & Tapes ddc 014, 1984)
Another Ding Dong Tape is a bit unclear as for the credits. De Nederlandse Cassette Catalogus says for artist What's In A Name and for title '70 Great Ideas From Europe' or 'seventeen great ideas' as is also said on the insert. But Dr. Freakowitz, who gave me this, doesn't have the package, nor I, which once again proofs I rather use something we have complete, but hey, its a pretty rare Ding Dong release and the music is alright: synth pop by two people (Alex van Hoorn on synthesizer, guitar, lyrics, vocals and Jos de Rooy on guitar, bass guitar, synthesizer), with even a bit of hit potentional, but their songs tend to be a bit too complex, I guess. Divided in a side with five songs (the 'seventeen great ideas') and in a side of 'collection of songs sounds and atmosphere's' the 'Music For Factory's' side.

Jorge Reyes & Francisco Lopez - UAISCM4: Tialoc (tape, Obuh Records, 1991)
Although I usually don't post many things by the same artists in few days apart, I here post another tape by Francisco Lopez, this time in collaboration with Mexican artist Jorge Reyes. The reason for posting is, besides of course it being a lost classic, is the fact that Jorge Reyes died last saturday of heart failure at the age of 56. I met him a couple of times and saw him play his great music, using all sorts of pre columbian musical instruments as well as using his body for percussion purposes. He was a kind and gentle person. Lopez here plays stones, electronic treatments, tape manipulations, recording and mixing. Nice music for this sad day.

Flank (tape, Ding Dong Records & Tapes ddc 004, 1982)
Although boredom never occurs here very much, I got tempted by all three comments from last saturday's post about starting a blog with just fanzines, I did some work and here it is: Notes From Underground. Like it says there, don't expect it to have a post everyday. I do have to work occasionally. Anyway, thanks to Dr. Freakowitz, here is a short tape on Ding Dong Records & Tapes and one you wouldn't expect if you know some of the other releases they had. They are mostly electronic, but Flank was a rock band, drums, guitar, bass, saxophone (I believe) and vocals. The lyircs are typical left-wing political ones from the early 80s and sound rather naive, but the music is quite strong. A bit like Gang Of Four says Freakowitz.

Blind - Hard Of Hearts/The Mind's Eye (LP, 1990)
Another one from McDoomey LTD is a band named Blind. They were from Eindhoven, if I am correct. Their music is a combination of post-punk and industrial music in the best Laibach and Test Dept tradition. This was one of those LPs I used to see back then, but never heard. I don't know why, as its pretty alright. I think its a private release by the band, and I have no idea what else they released.

Francisco Lopez - Paris Hiss (tape, Banned Production BP 81, 1996)
From Discogs: "Conceived and tested between 1993 and 1995. Recorded, mixed and mastered at Messor Studios (Madrid) during the winter 1995-96. No NR.
Cassette comes packaged between two other tapes, each with an adhesive label. These are connected to each other by a printed piece of paper glued to the tape shells.
The actual cassette has an adhesive label to each side of its shell. These labels are solid, thereby covering the rotating wheels in the center of the cassette. In order for the recordings to be played, the labels must essentially be destroyed. "

with: UK Subs, Leyton Buzzards, The Outcasts, Dave Goodman & Friends, The Outsiders, The Record Players, Vice Creems, The Dole, The Tights, Skunks, Thomas Leer, Robert Rental, Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire. Came originally with the Zig Zag guide to independent labels, which was basically a kind of discogs on paper, I think. I have the magazine, but couldn't find it right now. Maybe it came with a later version of this record. Anyway I guess most of these pieces were released before as 7", but this a nice advertisement for them. From the McDoomey LTD collection, so not for sale (which means 'not for sale, so there is no need to ask if its for sale'. The age of internet has made that people are bad readers and quick askers - it in general has made a lot of information available for a lot of people who simply aren't skilled (enough) to take in a massive amount of information. I'm rambling, right? And, ok, I can't read myself, as the title is 'Business Unusual', but I made the wrong tags saying it's called 'Business As Usual', stupidity is contagious.

Maeror Tri/Nostalgie Eternelle - Somnia Et Expergisci (tape, Irre Tapes IT 041, 1990)
Quite a lot of music that was released by Maeror Tri on cassette has been re-issued on CD, but I believe not this one, one of the earliest works. Someone, a long time ago requested some music by Nostalgie Eternelle, and this is the only work I have by them. That was duo of Dieter Mauson and Stefan Heinze and is not like Maeror Tri. Short electronic songs/tunes. Maeror Tri are in fine shape on this release with their great ambient industrial sound. Later on they were reduced to a duo and called Troum. The third member works now as 1000schoen.
